And there were many who repeated the experience, making the most of the 132-day duration of the exhibition to discover and rediscover the event. Lisbon\u2019s east end was a hotpot of ideas, projects, peoples and cultures. Every day was different. But there were routines and occasions which were repeated every day, such as the entertainment provided by the Peregrination and Acqua Matrix, which were such a big hit with visitors.<\/p>\n<p>A typical day at Expo\u201998 went like this:<\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div> \n\t<\/div> \n\t\t<\/div> \n\t<\/div> \n<\/div>\t<div  class=\"vc_row wpb_row vc_row-fluid\">\n\t<div class=\"vc_col-sm-12 wpb_column vc_column_container \">\n\t\t<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n\t\t\t\n\t<div class=\"wpb_accordion wpb_content_element  not-column-inherit\" data-collapsible=\"\" data-vc-disable-keydown=\"false\" data-active-tab=\"1\">\n\t\t<div class=\"wpb_wrapper wpb_accordion_wrapper ui-accordion\">\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t<div class=\"wpb_accordion_section group\">\n\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"wpb_accordion_header ui-accordion-header\"><a href=\"#9h00-opening\"> 9h00 \u2013 Opening <\/a><\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"wpb_accordion_content ui-accordion-content vc_clearfix\">\n\t\t\t\t\n\t<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element \">\n\t\t<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n\t\t\t<p>Tickets would go on sale at the ticket offices by the entrance gates. Little by little, the Olharapos would appear around the precinct, to the delight of visitors.<\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div> \n\t<\/div> \n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div> \n\n\t\t\t<div class=\"wpb_accordion_section group\">\n\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"wpb_accordion_header ui-accordion-header\"><a href=\"#10h00-opening-of-pavilions\">10h00 \u2013 Opening of pavilions <\/a><\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"wpb_accordion_content ui-accordion-content vc_clearfix\">\n\t\t\t\t\n\t<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element \">\n\t\t<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n\t\t\t<p>This was when visitors would set off to discover the \u201cworld\u201d. But some pavilions already had queues forming before opening\u2026<\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div> \n\t<\/div> \n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div> \n\n\t\t\t<div class=\"wpb_accordion_section group\">\n\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"wpb_accordion_header ui-accordion-header\"><a href=\"#11h00-official-ceremony\">11h00 \u2013 Official ceremony <\/a><\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"wpb_accordion_content ui-accordion-content vc_clearfix\">\n\t\t\t\t\n\t<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element \">\n\t\t<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n\t\t\t<p>The then Ceremonial Square in front of the Portuguese Pavilion hosted the ceremony for the respective national day or day of honour. The flags would be hoisted, national anthems played and the official speeches made.<\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div> \n\t<\/div> \n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div> \n\n\t\t\t<div class=\"wpb_accordion_section group\">\n\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"wpb_accordion_header ui-accordion-header\"><a href=\"#12h00-first-show\">12h00 \u2013 First show <\/a><\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"wpb_accordion_content ui-accordion-content vc_clearfix\">\n\t\t\t\t\n\t<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element \">\n\t\t<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n\t\t\t<p>The then Utopia Pavilion, now the Meo Arena, would open its doors for the first of four shows: \u201cOceans and Utopias\u201d.\u00a0 Further sessions at 15h00, 18h00 and 21h00<\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div> \n\t<\/div> \n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div> \n\n\t\t\t<div class=\"wpb_accordion_section group\">\n\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"wpb_accordion_header ui-accordion-header\"><a href=\"#13h00-changing-of-the-guards\">13h00 \u2013 Changing of the guards <\/a><\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"wpb_accordion_content ui-accordion-content vc_clearfix\">\n\t\t\t\t\n\t<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element \">\n\t\t<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n\t\t\t<p>Lunchtime was when the changing of the guards of Olharapos would take place, in front of the then Utopia Pavilion.<\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div> \n\t<\/div> \n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div> \n\n\t\t\t<div class=\"wpb_accordion_section group\">\n\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"wpb_accordion_header ui-accordion-header\"><a href=\"#17h00-official-ceremony\"> 17h00 \u2013 Official ceremony <\/a><\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"wpb_accordion_content ui-accordion-content vc_clearfix\">\n\t\t\t\t\n\t<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element \">\n\t\t<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n\t\t\t<p>This was the official ceremony for the official sponsors of Expo \u201898 at the <em>Ponto Cerimonial das Empresas<\/em> site.<\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div> \n\t<\/div> \n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div> \n\n\t\t\t<div class=\"wpb_accordion_section group\">\n\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"wpb_accordion_header ui-accordion-header\"><a href=\"#19h30-peregrination\"> 19h30 \u2013 Peregrination <\/a><\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"wpb_accordion_content ui-accordion-content vc_clearfix\">\n\t\t\t\t\n\t<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element \">\n\t\t<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n\t\t\t<p>\u201cWandering\u201d show which made its way around the Exposition site. Over 100 performers paraded in their \u201cwalking\u201d machines towards the river and would throw their end-of-the-millennium dreams into the waters.<\/p>\n<p>.<\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div> \n\t<\/div> \n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div> \n\n\t\t\t<div class=\"wpb_accordion_section group\">\n\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"wpb_accordion_header ui-accordion-header\"><a href=\"#20h00-closure-of-pavilions\">20h00 \u2013 Closure of pavilions <\/a><\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"wpb_accordion_content ui-accordion-content vc_clearfix\">\n\t\t\t\t\n\t<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element \">\n\t\t<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n\t\t\t<p>The pavilions would close their doors as night fell. Visitors would move into the restaurants, esplanades and leisure areas, whilst the \u201cdaytime Expo\u201d sites were closed for cleaning and maintenance.<\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div> \n\t<\/div> \n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div> \n\n\t\t\t<div class=\"wpb_accordion_section group\">\n\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"wpb_accordion_header ui-accordion-header\"><a href=\"#20h30-night-time-shows\"> 20h30 \u2013 Night-time shows <\/a><\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"wpb_accordion_content ui-accordion-content vc_clearfix\">\n\t\t\t\t\n\t<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element \">\n\t\t<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n\t\t\t<p>Start of the shows in all of the precinct\u2019s scenic spaces (the scheduling would prioritise initiatives for the national days and days of honour, and was complemented by initiatives by Expo\u201998).<\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div> \n\t<\/div> \n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div> \n\n\t\t\t<div class=\"wpb_accordion_section group\">\n\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"wpb_accordion_header ui-accordion-header\"><a href=\"#23h45-acqua-matrix\"> 23h45 \u2013 Acqua Matrix <\/a><\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"wpb_accordion_content ui-accordion-content vc_clearfix\">\n\t\t\t\t\n\t<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element \">\n\t\t<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n\t\t\t<p>For many, this was the most eagerly-awaited moment of their day. Sirens announced the start of Acqua Matrix and all attention was focused on the Doca dos Olivais area.
